February 28- From Where We Sit: Timely Thoughts from Kathy and Liz

Getting the Most out of Your Ride

Goodness, the price of gas! Every time I fill up it costs a little bit more. I know you feel the pinch, too, especially on those long commutes many of you have. Really though, there isn’t much of a choice. You have to go to work, so you fuel up and sacrifice in other areas.

Fueling up your car is much the same as fueling up your life. You can use low octane fuel and miss the oil change to save a few bucks, but you end up with other problems. Do you think much about how you are fueling your life ride every day? Are you putting in high quality fruits, vegetables, and protein or trying to run on junk food? Is your octane positive or negative?  If you are hearing some clanking in your engine, maybe it’s time to put in some better fuel

The Energy Bus Rule #3 - Fuel your Ride with Positive Energy

As the ICAHN staff finished the book club reading of Jon Gordon’s The Energy Bus, we were asked to pick our favorite rule. I choose rule #3: Fuel your ride with positive energy. I love this rule because it is such an easy, simple rule to follow. As Gordon says, “Every day when we look at the gas pump of life we have a choice between positive energy and negative energy. Positive energy is high octane fuel for the ride of your life while negative energy cause sludge to accumulate in your energy pipeline.”

Work, life, the news, it can all be pretty negative. Your spouse is cranky, your boss is in a bad mood, your team isn’t working together well, in can take you down, too. There is a quote I like that says, “where focus goes, energy goes.” Fueling up with positive energy will make a difference in how you focus on the negativity around you. The good news here? It only takes one person to transform negativity. Why not you?

Everyday isn’t sunshine and roses, so when you wake up in the morning and just aren’t feeling like putting in the positive energy have a plan for how to turn it around. Some simple ideas: don’t look at your phone first thing, take an early morning walk, read a devotional, have a gratitude check-list, eat a good, nutritious breakfast, smile, and sometimes- just fake it till you make it!

Finally, some sunshine and warmer weather this week. What better time than now to start checking your tank. Fuel it up with good foods and positive energy and see where your ride goes!
